The Art & Design Studies program fosters discovery and development of your distinct artistic voice, combining conceptual and technical skill with critical and creative thinking. Personalized instruction focuses on ideas and intentions, while technical instruction allows you to realize your vision. An emphasis on practice-led creative research is suited to students with an interest in visual thinking. Highlights Wilson offers dedicated discipline-specific studios with 24-hour access, ongoing opportunities for students to exhibit their work in professional environments on campus as well as off campus, a robust visiting artist program exposing students to an array of visual and performing artists with national and international reputations, and wide ranging opportunities for internships. The Art & Design program offers endowed study abroad scholarships, frequent visits to Washington DC, New York, & Philadelphia museums, and a tight, close-knit community of faculty and student artists who mentor, support, and encourage each other. Why Study Art & Design? As a Wilson College Art & Design major, you will develop an artistic voice, demonstrating the creation of original works, a command of compositional techniques, and the refinement of your ability to conceptualize and realize resolved works of art. select a concentration in Graphic Design or Web Design, or choose to study Art more broadly, but enjoy the opportunity to explore artistic forms across a wide variety of media. investigate and integrate a range of knowledge, technique, craft, and historical/theoretical perspectives of art forms in both digital and analogue formats. implement collaborative and independent scholarship processes using methods and tools appropriate to the discipline. Career Paths Graduates have followed a variety of paths to employment and career success. Many graduates go directly into the workforce, while others continued their education through additional study at the graduate level (including at Wilson College). Graduates have pursued careers in arts administration, graphic design, educational or cultural institutions, galleries, museums, or gone on to work as a freelance or commercial artists/designers/photographers.
