Student Learning Goals Veterinary Nursing

Upon completion of their program curricula, students who complete a major in Veterinary Nursing will be able to:

  • model ethical and professional conduct.
    • Demonstrate the ethical treatment of animals.
    • Exhibit verbal communication skills.
    • Convey written communication effectively.
  • demonstrate an understanding of the etiology of common animal diseases, including pathology and diagnostics.
    • Distinguish between infectious versus noninfectious diseases.
    • Perform basic laboratory tests by utilizing common veterinary equipment.
    • Identify abnormalities on diagnostic tests.
  • demonstrate a fundamental understanding of pharmacological mechanisms.
    • Obtain a foundational level of pharmaceutical agents and their properties.
    • Apply mathematical concepts related to veterinary medicine.
    • Properly administrate anesthesia.
    • Provide adequate analgesia.
  • utilize their veterinary education to provide excellent patient care.
    • Advocate for all species.
    • Prioritize responsibility for their patients.
    • Maintain aseptic techniques and hygienic equipment and facilities.
