This update was published February 5, 2024The soft launch of the simplified 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the Department of Education (DoE) and Federal Student Aid was on December 30, 2023. It has been communicated that the challenges experienced by students and families in the first couple of weeks have improved. The FAFSA is now accessible 24/7, with occasional interruptions for routine maintenance. Remember, an updated FAFSA is required for your student to be considered for financial aid in the upcoming academic year.Key Updates and Tips:FAFSA Simplification: Fewer questions for easier completion.File the Correct FAFSA: Please make sure you are filing the 2024-2025 FAFSA.Simplified Income Questions: FAFSA streamlines income questions by automatically pulling in federal tax information with your consent, allowing most filers to skip the income section. You must provide consent for the income information to transfer.Parent Contributors: Married couples filing joint tax returns only need one spouse to complete the FAFSA, using the spouse's name and social security number for verification. One FAFSA should be completed for single or separated/divorced parents as well. The parent providing the most financial support should fill out the online form.Guidance Webpage: FSA's webpage offers comprehensive guidance on creating an FSA ID, answering FAFSA questions, and seeking assistance.FAFSA Deadline Consideration: If your student is currently enrolled at Wilson, we suggest waiting until March to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA. This will still allow enough time to meet state grant application deadline. Pennsylvania state grant deadline is May 1st.Wilson’s Estimated Packaging Timeline: Because of the recent (1.30.24) announcement from the DoE regarding the FAFSA, we are now planning to commence fall 2024 incoming student packaging in late April. Please note, this timeline may be subject to change based on any future Department of Education's delays. Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive aid offer at the earliest opportunity. We encourage families to reach out to our Financial Aid Team at any time to help assist with this process. We will keep you updated as we receive more information.Phone: 717-262-2016 Email: finaid@wilson.eduHelpful Information and ResourcesWilson College FAFSA code: 003396You will need to create an account, username, and password (FSA ID) which you can do here. The 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is available here. The FAFSA Simplification Act represents a significant overhaul of the processes and systems used to award federal student aid starting with the 2024–25 award year.
