Goals, Student Learning Outcomes, and Institutional Learning Goals

Goal 1: The students will demonstrate measurable knowledge of content and subject materials.
        A.    Develop, implement, assess, and modify curriculum and lessons evidenced by the ability to apply standards and thematic strands in all content areas.
        B.    Synthesize key research and findings related to the PreK-12 educational settings.
                ILG: Communication W1: Students will write and speak well in different contexts.
                        a)    Communication skills are demonstrated by the student’s ability to use composing processes to write effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences.

Goal 2:  The students will demonstrate knowledge of pedagogical skills in planning and implementing strategies to meet the needs in today’s diverse classrooms.
        A.    Apply sensitivity for the culture, language, religion, gender, disability, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation.
        B.    Plan, implement, and adapt, for all children, developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate instructional practices and strategies.
               ILG:  Engaging Diversity W5: Students will demonstrate awareness of their own culture in comparison with other cultures and communities, within the United States and globally. Additionally, students will learn about the obstacles women and minorities face now and historically and the contributions they have made to cultures despite those obstacles.
                      a)    Engaging diversity is demonstrated by the student’s ability to analyze the implications of global interdependence in relation to cultures, languages, worldviews, politics, economics, and/or environmental issues.
                      b)    Engaging diversity is demonstrated by the student’s ability to demonstrate understanding of the historical and/or contemporary position of women and minorities in the US or in other cultures.

Goal 3:  The students will exhibit understanding of technologies related to instructional practice and applicable to student needs.
        A.    Apply technology into instruction appropriately.

Goal 4:  The students will provide evidence of the ability to apply assessment strategies that address state standards and differentiate each according to student needs.
        A.    Identify, define, and interpret the types of reliable education assessments.
        B.    Develop assessments that impact instruction, facilitate learning communities, and support diverse students’ development and learning.
        C.    Implement the use of formal and informal assessments.

Goal 5:  The students will identify, manage, and implement effective classroom routines, procedures, and management skills.
        A.    Create learning environments that encourage social, emotional, language, cognitive, physical, and creative development
        B.    Connect classroom materials, learning standards, and instruction

Goal 6:  The students will exhibit skill in delivering instruction and engaging others in learning by employing a variety of research-based instructional strategies.
        A.    Deliver curriculum that is relevant, challenging, integrative, and exploratory
        B.    Differentiate instruction, assessment, and management strategies to accommodate a broad spectrum of learning abilities, learning styles, and interests.

        A.    Exhibit professional dispositions with respect to students, parents, and families, including but not limited to communication, appearance, and demeanor.
