Single Parent Scholars Program

Morgan Kelly '24, an environmental science major with a biology minor, is the president and co-founder of the environmental club and can be found organizing environmental awareness projects and hands-on learning at many events on campus. She accomplishes all this while raising her daughter as part of the Single Parent Scholars Program.

Chris Mayer, Assistant Professor shared "Morgan is an outstanding example of a student who embraced her education here at Wilson."

Wilson College's Single Parent Scholar Program was included in an article by newamerica.org about providing housing for student parent scholars. "Wilson College’s Single Parent Scholar Program supports up to twelve students annually who are pursuing a bachelor's degree full-time while raising up to two children Starting in 2020, the program began awarding grants to cover on-campus housing for all students accepted to the SPS program." 

Beginning with the fall 2020 semester, students accepted into the Wilson College Single Parent Scholar Program will no longer have to pay for on-campus housing.

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation has awarded Wilson College a $25,000 grant to support students age 25 and older who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree and need financial assistance.

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Teresa Miller today visited the Single Parent Scholar Program at Wilson College to learn about the acclaimed program and discuss opportunities to expand post-secondary education and training options for single-parent families.
