Wednesday, February 19, 2025 - 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Lenfest Learning Commons, John Stewart Memorial Library Adam DelMarcelle, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and academic curator Matthew Clay-Robison will be discussing the work of artist Purvis Young and the importance of academic galleries and museums. This event is free and open to the public. The interactive exhibition, “Cut Through — Purvis Young: Stories of Overtown.” is on display on the ground and first floor of John Stewart Memorial Library. Students in DelMarcelle's Art History and Graphic Design classes collaborated to curate, research, write, and develop the system for the exhibition design, which includes a Spotify playlist and several works from the artist.Young was an American artist from the Overtown neighborhood in Miami, Florida. His art blended painting and drawing with collaged elements utilizing everyday found materials. Matthew Clay-Robison teaches at York College in Pennsylvania and is also the gallery director of their multiple locations. His work can also be found in the permanent and private collections of the Library of Congress, the Dr. David C. Driskell Collection, and the Dr. Robert E. Steele Collection.
