He held a postdoctoral Franklin Teaching Fellow position at the University of Georgia from 2004-2006 before coming to Wilson College. His specialty is in Ethics, with interests in Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, and Comparative Philosophy. John’s scholarship is focused on moral and practical virtues in contemporary life and popular culture. He has published several articles and book chapters on topics including transparency, humiliation, integrity, reverence, and hope. He’s currently completing an Open Access textbook for his introductory course in World Philosophy. In addition to teaching courses in Philosophy and Criminal Justice, John contributes to graduate programs in the Humanities and in Leadership. He regularly teaches First Year Seminar and travels as a supporting faculty member for the Martin Luther King Travel Seminar.
