Inauguration of Wesley R. Fugate Wilson College was pleased to host the Inauguration of Wesley R. Fugate, Ph.D. on May 17, 2021.The event celebrated President Fugate’s tenure at Wilson since January 2020 and officially installed him as the 20th president of the institution. The installation ceremony was delayed as a COVID-19 precautionary measure.The campus welcomed special guests, dignitaries, staff, faculty, family, and friends to the Main Green for a beautiful afternoon event. Hillarie Flood, Wilson College Board of Trustees member, served as mistress of ceremonies. Those supporters of the College unable to join in person participated via live stream video. (A link to a recording of the ceremony is included below.)Greetings were shared by representatives from associations of higher learning, institutions of higher learning, the community, alumnae and alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Wilson College Board of Trustees Chair and Vice Chair, Barbara L. Tenney, M.D. and James A. Orsini, D.V.M., oversaw the president’s investiture and Bradley W. Bateman, Ph.D., president of Randolph College in Virginia, provided the presidential introduction.President Fugate shared an inspirational and thought-provoking message through his remarks entitled “Wisdom. Honor. Justice. A Foundation for the Future.” His comments gave attendees a better understanding of his upbringing, his beliefs in a liberal arts education, and his values system. President Fugate also provided a glimpse into why he chose to join the Phoenix Family during the interview process for his position, citing the institution’s Honor Principle as a key factor and influence. He concluded his remarks by elaborating on the strategic planning work that has taken place on campus since his arrival and mapped out several challenges and expectations for Wilson’s future. Of note, President Fugate provided details on recent advancements in his Presidential Priorities.
