Shortly before embarking on a January 2025 expedition to Antarctica, Shelby Harmon ’25, an animal studies major with minors in biology and psychology, received a diagnosis of Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1, a severe form of Muscular Dystrophy.

Jenna Benke ’25, a double major in Animal Studies with a concentration in Environmental Science and Environmental Sustainability, spent her spring semester as a Nature and Conservation Intern with the Conococheague Institute.

“I am an animal studies major with a biology/psychology concentration. I am a psychology major as well. Animal studies has been a wonderful experience so far as I am learning about all types of animals including dogs, cats, small animals, horses, farm animals, wildlife animals, etc.

Wilson has received a $4,000 grant from the Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) for scholarships for students pursuing equine or animal-related majors.

The Wilson College Veterinary Medical Technology Club that had been set for Oct. 14 and 15 has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. It will not be rescheduled, according to the club president. However, the dog wash will be held in spring 2018 at a time to be announced later.

Wilson College is offering two new degrees in spring 2014, a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and a master’s degree in accountancy, and will add a third new program in fall 2014, a bachelor’s degree in animal studies.
