Tuesday, March 7, 2017 - 7 am Lenfest Learning Commons, John Stewart Memorial Library By: Dr.Alison Dagnes, Shippensburg University In an effort to appear "fair and balanced," the modern American political media has constructed a system that gives equal time and attention to all opinions, even when the opinions are factually incorrect or when the comparisons are straight-up false. This talk explains how we got here and explores the damage done to discourse, democracy, and to journalism. This event is in conjunction with Women's History Month and is co-sponsored by the Hankey Center and Women's Studies. Dr. Alison Dagnes is Professor of Political Science at Shippensburg University. She writes books about the political media and speaks frequently on the topic of American politics. Prior to receiving her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Dr. Dagnes was a producer at C-SPAN in Washington, DC, which is not nearly as boring as it sounds.
